The 1st LD had a wonderful year in 2015 and we are gearing up for a stellar 2016. Our first meeting of the year is on Monday January 11th. The 2016 election season includes a Presidential, Gubernatorial, U.S. Senate, 2 Congressional races and all three of our state legislators are up for reelection. Whew! That doesn’t even include the many initiatives and referendums that will be on the ballot. There is already a carbon tax referendum and possibly new minimum wage and paid sick leave initiatives. Your local legislative district works hard to review, endorse and elect good Democrats…won’t you join us?
The first thing you can do is to renew your membership. It’s $24 per year or $40 for a family. You can renew on-line at www.1stld.democrat . That’s only $2.00 a month! If you attended any of our meetings last year, you’ll have to agree that it is one of the best values out there. We had a full slate of speakers and candidate forums that helped educate us on the policy issues we are all facing in our day to day lives. Our meetings also give you unique access to many of our elected officials.
The second thing you can do is attend our monthly meetings and find a way to contribute to the cause. There are any number of ways to help. You can also become a Precinct Committee Officer (PCO) and be the voice of your neighborhood. We have five committees that could use your help in achieving our goal of promoting progressive values.
The most important work we will do in 2016 is to host the Presidential Caucus. The caucus is scheduled for Saturday March 26th. Please mark this down on your calendar.
Whether it’s Sanders, Clinton, O’Malley or anyone else make sure you are there to have your vote counted. The Washington State Democratic Party uses the caucus to assign votes for the national convention, not the primary. We will send updates on caucus locations as soon as they are booked.
The speaker at our January meeting be our very own Guy Palumbo. Guy is Chair of the Snohomish County Planning Commission, a Snohomish County Fire District 7 Commissioner and he is currently running for the appointment to the vacated Snohomish County Council District 5 seat. He will be giving us a presentation about some of the growth management issues facing the 1st LD.
We will be serving a light dinner of soup, salad and bread starting at 6:00 PM and then the meeting starts at 7:00 sharp.
Please come be the change you want to see.
